Waste presents one of the biggest challenges to human civilization. The waste situation in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is at a critical level. Waste is piled up all over the city and a quick solution, leading to a more sustainable waste management programme, is required to remedy the situation. The levels of waste in public areas and near water has a very big impact on public health. For four years HEART has been working on preparing a waste management programme in the DRC, as the lack of suitable waste management in the country has become a humanitarian crisis, contributing to numerous deadly diseases, such as cholera that ravage the country.
HEART has been focusing on implementing it's regeneration programme in the city of Lubumbashi, in the Katanga province. Developing a full waste management solution for Lubumbashi seems to be very viable project and can be achieved in a very short space of time, with help, as there is a strong will within the government and the people to address this vital issue.
We do not receive any government funding for our work - we need your support to continue this life saving work.
The people of Lubumbashi are already doing their best but need your help to implement any real, sustainable, change.
